Haitao (Heather) Zheng, Professor of Department of Computer Science, University of California, Santa Barbara, has been named an IEEE Fellow (class of 2015, effective 1 January 2015). She is being recognized for contributions to dynamic spectrum access and cognitive radio networks.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one-percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.
Prof. Zheng is a world-renowned pioneer and one of the most influential researchers in wireless networking, particularly in the area of cognitive radios and dynamic spectrum networks. She has published more than 100 scholarly articles in top journals and conference venues, and received several prestigious awards for her research contributions. In particular, she was one of the TR35 (Top 35 innovators under the age of 35) selected by MIT Technology Review in 2005. And her work on cognitive radios was named as one of the Top 10 Emerging Technologies by MIT Technology Review in 2006. She also received Best Paper Awards from IEEE DySPAN and ACM SIGMETRICS conferences. Her research works were featured by various news outlets, such as Boston Globe, Computer World, Extreme Tech, MIT Technology Review, and New York Times.
