PhD student Gianluca Stringhini receives Symantec Graduate Fellowship

Gianluca Stringhini, a Computer Science PhD candidate working in the Computer Security Lab, is one of the four recipients nationwide of the prestigious Symantec Research Labs Graduate Fellowship for 2012. He and the other recipients will receive a stipend covering educational, travel and living expenses for visits to conduct research on Symantec campuses, as well as complimentary access to Symantec’s Worldwide Intelligence Network Environment – a research infrastructure that provides access to valuable security data. Past recipients of the award have made substantial contributions to prestigious industry groups, as well as to the academic community.Gianluca’s research focuses on studying large-scale threats, such as botnets and spam. Gianluca developed multiple systems that aim at detecting activity by malicious parties when they interact with legitimate services, such as mail servers and social networks.
