CS remembers Professor Emeritus Marvin Marcus
In remembrance, we are sad to announce the February 20, 2016 passing of our esteemed colleague Marvin David Marcus, who was a Professor Emeritus. Marvin began his long affiliation with UCSB in 1962. His first UCSB appointment was in the Department of Mathematics until 1983. From 1983 to 1987, Marvin held joint appointments in the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science. He subsequently joined our department (Computer Science) in 1987. He founded UCSB’s Microcomputer Laboratory in 1979, serving as its Director until his retirement in 1991. Marvin was Vice Chancellor and Dean of Research and Academic development from 1978-1986. He was a highly prolific author/co-author of several dozen books and more than 200 articles. He will be remembered for his contributions to Matrix Theory and Multilinear Algebra.
