Professor William Wang receives Pierre-Simon Laplace Early Career Technical Achievement Award
Professor William Wang has been selected for the 2023 IEEE Signal Processing Society’s 2023 Pierre-Simon Laplace Early Career Technical Achievement Award, which honors individuals who have made significant technical contributions within their field early in their career. The award recognizes Professor Wang for “contributions to the development of scalable algorithms in natural language processing.”
“I’m extremely honored for this major award from IEEE SPS,” Wang says. “I have been a big fan of Laplace’s work. We are actually presenting a paper on Bayesian latent variable interpretation of large language models at NeurIPS this week.”
Pierre-Simon Laplace (1749-1827) pioneered and popularized Bayesian probability during his lifetime.
Wang will be formally recognized with the award in Seoul, Korea, in April 2024.
