Congratulations to Professor Xifeng Yan, Assistant Professor Yu Feng, and PhD candidate Yanju Chen for receiving the distinguished paper award at the 43rd ACM SIGPLAN Conference on Programming Language Design and Implementation (PLDI'22).

The awarded paper —"Visualization Question Answering Using Introspective Program Synthesis"— explores program synthesis techniques for bootstrapping off-the-shelf weakly supervised machine learning models on visualization question answering tasks. The proposed system Poe refines predictions from existing models by a two-staged algorithm that maximize the consistency between questions, answers and explanations of a task, providing another synergetic view of programming languages techniques and machine learning applications.

PLDI is the premier conference in the field of programming languages and programming systems research, covering the areas of design, implementation, theory, applications, and performance.
