Mentoring graduate students is a vital component of UCSB's mission as a research university. It includes training graduate students for careers in research and teaching, and preparing them to meet the highest professional and ethical standards as scholars and educators. The Outstanding Graduate Mentor Awards recognize the exemplary contributions of faculty to mentoring.
Recipients are selected by a committee composed of representatives from the Graduate Council and Council on Faculty Welfare, Academic Freedom, and Awards, as well as past recipients of the Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award.
