Bio

Yuheng Bu is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science (CS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Before joining UCSB, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida and a postdoctoral research associate at the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) and Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2019 and his B.S. (with honors) from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University in 2014.

Research

Yuheng Bu's research interests lie in the intersection of machine learning, information theory, and signal processing. He leverages the tools from information theory and statistical signal processing to foundational machine-learning problems to develop theoretically justified algorithms for diverse applications, including watermarking generative AI, fair machine learning, uncertainty quantification, and model compression.
