Congratulations to Dr. Yinghui Wu, PhD student Shengqi Yang, and Prof. Xifeng Yan, who received a Best Poster Award at the 29th Annual Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2013) for their research work, “Ontology-based Subgraph Querying.”

Summary of the research: Traditional graph search systems are designed for exact matching that retains the identical keywords in the query. They are often too restrictive to provide users with the information that is actually close to the query semantically. The team led by Prof. Yan develops a new effective querying mechanism with the help of semantic knowledge (a.k.a, Ontology). This technology, together with other graph search algorithms invented in Yan’s lab, could influence the development of knowledge graphs in the leading search companies.
