WiFi access is terrible on this campus. I can't stay connected to either UCSB wireless or lib-pub. In fact I'm using my phone to send this message because I can't access the internet from my computer. If I'm lucky enough to be connected, I can't get any work done because of how slow the connection is...I mean really? An hour to attach a word document to an email? Pathetic. Cal state campuses have better WiFi coverage and service. I hope this is just a "summer thing" and WiFi improves in the fall.

Maybe it is simple but I have no idea how to solve it.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,

We have students who have purchased new macbook pros over the summer. There's something that is blocking them from accessing the log in page. The airport shows they are connecting to UCSB Wireless but the browser just hangs until eventually you get a 404 error message. These students are trying to access the wifi at the Davidson Library. Any ideas? Thanks.

Why does the wireless network require a log in ... (Nathaniel Smith)

Why does the wireless network require a log in for use every time I connect? I am new faculty here, and at past institutions the network would recognize my computer and log me in automatically.

It would be nice to avoid the extra steps of having to open the page and enter log in info each time---did I miss something with settings, or is that just how UCSB is set up? (....but why!?)

Thanks for any information!

I am building a Ruby on Rails application for ... (Alex Lyte)

I am building a Ruby on Rails application for the Davidson library, and I am having trouble using the Net::LDAP method to authenticate/bind to the LDAP A/D server. Sending a blank username and password returns 'true', but almost no other username/password combinations seem to return true, though I am rather sure they are correct.

Is there anyone in UCSB CS that has used the Net::LDAP method before? Is there a better forum for this question?
